...Sizzling Summer Items
Don't miss a single sale sitting around wondering what to buy when it's right under your nose.

With the Sex in the City movie just released, girls are dying to get that Sara Jessica Parker look down to the last stroke of mascara, that you apply subtly enough as if not to show. The knee length wrap skirt is the perfect look for girls with a full figure at work or out for a prowl on the town. If your the Gidget type, strutting your stuff on the beach this summer, then why not try a one piece instead of those over priced mix matched two pieces. You still can't get enough of those cut off denim mini's skirts or short cut daisy duke's. Long boho dresses are all the rage this summer, as well as the strapless tunic style. Let's get real GIRLS, nobody want's to see your lawnchair branded buttcheeks after sitting in some furniture at a swanky little patio lunch joint all afternoon. Be tasteful and Don't wear the skirts too short.

...The Spotlights
2(two)Legends Vintage Fashion is taking over the middle of the US from Austin to Des Moines. Time to take a look at two long time customers who have been part of the revolution from the very beginning.

SMASH

SMASH in Des Moines, Iowa has brought a whole new fusion of sustainable fashion art and style to their city. What started out as screen printing shop, grew to a design firm, and then a Vintage Boutique/Gallery. SMASH has been part of the revolution since they opened their boutique carrying a distinct collection of both Dust Factory's vintage and reconstruction lines. This cool shop has added a whole new twist to life and fashion where they need it the most. http://thesmashsite.com

CREAM

Still one of our favorites, Cream Vintage in Austin, Texas has been taking fashion and lifestyle by the horns. Not just a Vintage shop, but one of the leading underground venues during Austin's famous SXSW festival. Having hosted bands from New York's We are Scientists, to Sweden's own Division of Laura Lee a never ending melting pot of Music, Fashion and lifestyle. Cream has been one of Austin's leading vintage stores for over 5 years. http://creamvintage.com

2(two) NEW BOUTIQUES

We are glad to tell you about two new boutiques that opened at the beginning of the year that are already making a difference in their very different cities.

The first boutique you should know about opened a few months ago in Pikerington, Ohio. The Cotton Grass is a 'unique boutique' that offers our one of a kind clothing. They carry Particle clothing, reconstructed from vintage and recycled fabrics. They also offer vintage t-shirts, jackets, and denim from Dust Factory's Authentic Vintage Collection, as well as many modern accessories. One of a kind in the area Cotton Grasses collection is catching on and influencing many of the city's advanced and distinguished shoppers, as well as many up and coming designers.

Stop by and check out The Cotton Grass whenever you make your way through Pickerington, Ohio. You can find the store at 5 w Columbus Street Pickerington, Ohio 43147 or you can check them out online at http://www.thecottongrass.com

On the other side of the world, retail partners Darren Burke and Gavin Divin just opened Revolver Clothing in Derry, Northern Ireland. Revolver Clothing opened with a solid collection of vintage apparel, ranging from 80's street wear, to classic 50's party wear. They also opened up a Particle Reconstructed Showroom for the public, carrying a ample representation of both the men and womens Particle Reconstruction Collections to Europe. Retail Owner Darren Burke seized the opportunity to take control of fashion in his city while opening the door for a new movement in style.

Anyone with dedication can start making a difference in their city or town. Whether it be from just wearing vintage or recycled clothing, or by providing the option to find it easier to their friends and neighbors. With retail mark ups being the highest in the clothing industry, opening a vintage clothing store is an excellent business venture.

Our years of retail experience with vintage clothing have led us to a formula that is easily transferable to someone wanting to run their own FACTORY VINTAGE . This combined with our unique ability to provide inventory makes it a very profitable business for the right investor.

...Why Vintage Clothing
With over 3 trillion tons of clothing being put into landfill's each year in the US alone, do we really need to even ask.
But hey, you already new that. What about the fashion industries impact on sweat shops in third world countries, or pesticides destroying millions of acres of land in countries growing the cotton to produce new clothing. The UN FAO and World Health Organization estimated that developing countries spend US $3 billion annually on pesticides. However, one-third of these pesticides did not meet internationally accepted quality standards. Developing countries are used as a dumping ground for hazardous chemicals, many of which are banned throughout much of the rest of the world because of the serious threats they pose to human health and the natural environment. Cambodia is one such country.

...8 Ways to increase Sales
  • Rearrange the store by putting your best selling items in the front and the back, driving the traffic flow around the entire shop.
  • Work with each employee on sales and promote good sellers.
  • Learn about your product and the story behind each piece or style. Share information with fellow workers and customers.
  • Merchandise the store in a new format each week. It will give your employees an opportunity to get involved, as well as show new looks and merchandise to your returning clientele.
  • Constantly turn product over. It is OK to put pieces on sale at cost in order to get new product in.
  • Work with each employee on sales and promote good sales people.
  • Start having weekly SALE'S with events attached to them. Like a T-shirt sale during an instore concert
  • Start giving away discounted product or promote with local hair stylists or bar tenders aka "connectors", anyone who makes a living talking while they work. Hook them up and they will most likely hook you up with allot of business.

...Fashion Forecasting / A Look Into Next Years Trends

So if your still hung up on the 60's, and have a hard time with the 70's stuff. Let's face it, 1980 was 28 years ago. Most of your target market wasn't even born then. And if your too stingy to sell to the highschool and college kid's then you don't deserve to ring up their daddy's unlimited credit cards. Most of these kids were raised dealing with their parents mistakes. Green is a not a new term to kids that are setting trends, that so many so called fashonista shop owners miss the opportunity to take advantage in. But this isn't about the 80's or even the kid's right now. This is about what Fashion Forward shop owners are asking for in countries like New Zealand and Japan. They are moving right past the 80's and going to the 90's. That's right, take a deep breath and another swig of your scotch if your still hung up on the 80's and decided to read on. Doc Martin's, FLANNEL SHIRTS, Over sized Blazers, MONKEY BOOTS. They are all on there way. But let's face it, wasn't that a look from the 40's to begin with.
